the letter which is dated and bears what purports to be a signature.
"I cannot tell you all. If you students are brave enough to die,

"Democracy), Secondly, we should act in accordance with the book,
"Thirdly, people of the modern age should also read it. Of the
"600,000,000 people of our Country those who are as determined as
"I, can also become a righteous and brave man who will be a great
"hero. Please become a righteous and brave man. Written by Ng
"Yik Shan Dated 10th December of the 22nd year of the Chinese
"Republic (1933)."
The next letter reads: "He who dares to kill the
"Europeans will be agreat hero. Please be a righteous and brave
"man and you will be a great hero".
The next reads "Those who have courage are requested to
"be brave men."
I give them in that order but no one knows what the
correct order is, but the Crown say

abundance. Being penniless, and stranded in a country to which
he did not want to go, no employment, in despair because of
the treatment meted out to him in Swatow, full of these pernicious
doctrines, determined on suicide what better way to kill two
birds with one stone - what better way to carry out his deliberate
intent to commit suicide and at the same time justify his claim
than to take a European with him - and what easier way than to
take five little children. That is the Crown case in a nut
shell.
The case for the accused is you have no definite evidence
that those letters belong to the accused. Anyone may have
put them in there, and it is true that he may have deliberately
determined on suicide, but he would never do such a thing as
this
